Easy Modern House Number Sign

Easy Modern House Number Sign

It’s amazing how much this easy DIY house number sign has updated our home’s curb appeal.

Our front exterior lacked clear house numbers so I thought it was a great opportunity to not only fill the void but also add a simple design update.

It’s a quick, easy and fun project. Let me show you how.

Links to some of the supplies I used:

I’ve got leftover cedar fence pickets from my mailbox build and my trash can privacy fence, which is perfect for this project. At the time of this writing, cedar fence pickets are around $4, so super affordable if you need to pick one up! One picket is plenty for this project.

I grabbed two of my fence picket scraps (roughly 20” long) and glued them together with exterior rated wood glue to make one thicker board. You could use clamps to keep them together while they dry, or just simply set something heavy on them.

After the glue set up, I cut the board to a final length of 19” and then gave it a quick sanding with my orbital sander.

Cedar naturally turns gray over time when exposed to sun and weather. To prevent this, I added a couple coats of a spar urethane to the wood. I love the way it makes the cedar pop!

I’m going to add a keyhole hanger on the back of the wood so we can hang it up.

I traced out the hole for the hook and simply drilled out some space with a drill bit. This will give some room for the screw it will hang on.

The house numbers I am using are these 5” modern numbers from Home Depot. Beautiful and easily accessible at your nearest store.

The numbers conveniently come with hole guides so you know exactly where to drill the holes for placement.

I then hammed in the supplied anchors and screwed on the pins and spacers for the numbers

And now the numbers can attached by gently hammering them into their anchor holes.

So easy and so cute!

I added a screw on the rock where I wanted the sign and then hung it up, setting the screw inside the keyhole hanger that I added on the back.

I’m so happy with this easy project! I love how much this small project alone updated the front of our house. We get compliments on it often. I hope you feel inspired to make your own!

See you on the next project!
